ARTI MECCANICHE E PENSIERO TECNICO NELLA CIVILTA’ OCCIDENTALE
Cultura e storia del progresso tecnico

E’ previsto un ciclo di tre conferenze, la prima delle quali si terrà Venerdì 16 novembre, ore 20,30, presso il Centro Civico Polifunzionale (ex Circoscrizione) di Via Lecco.
Le conferenze previste, sempre al Circolo sopra detto, sono le seguenti:
1. Prima conferenza: GLI INGEGNERI DEL RINASCIMENTO (’400-’500) venerdì 16 novembre 2012
Per quanto la tecnica abbia rappresentato un elemento rilevante per la società medievale, i suoi protagonisti, relegati in un ruolo sociale subalterno, avevano un orizzonte pragmatico ancora limitato alla conoscenza del “come fare”. A partire dal ‘400 cresce, soprattutto in Italia, la visibilità pubblica di una nuova categoria di personaggi di formazione tecnico-artistica che si distingue dai predecessori medievali per l’autocoscienza della propria identità culturale. Si tratta di artisti-ingegneri impegnati nella produzione di beni materiali, ma anche nella creazione di una tradizione scritta per la conservazione e la trasmissione del sapere tecnico.
2. Seconda conferenza: SCIENZA E TECNICA ALLE ORIGINI DELLA MODERNITA’ sabato 16 febbraio 2013
A partire dal Seicento, il forte e diffuso mecenatismo delle corti contribuisce alla nascita e alla diffusione di accademie e circoli scientifici informali, luoghi privilegiati di collaborazione nella ricerca scientifica e tecnica, grazie anche all’affermazione dei primi periodici scientifici. Inoltre, al sistema tradizionale delle scienze si aggiungono altre discipline, quali la chimica, la biologia, la pneumatica e il magnetismo, che traggono beneficio da uno stretto contatto con le tecniche, contribuendo così a superare l’ideale di scienza come attività puramente teorica. La collaborazione tra scienza e tecnica è una delle principali conquiste della rivoluzione scientifica moderna ed è testimoniata dalla crescente importanza che assumono gli strumenti scientifici nel corso del XVII secolo.
3. Terza conferenza: L’ETA’ DEI LUMI E L’ERA DELLE RIVOLUZIONI INDUSTRIALI sabato 16 marzo 2013
Nel Settecento le scienze vivono un notevole sviluppo quantitativo oltre ad una crescente suddivisione e specializzazione disciplinare. Crescono le istituzioni scientifiche l’editoria scientifica e si assiste ad un primo processo di professionalizzazione della scienza e delle professioni tecniche che da passatempo aristocratico o strumento di curiosità intellettuale si trasformano in una opportunità di impiego e di carriera. Emergono i prodromi della cosiddetta “rivoluzione industriale” che, pur riferendosi ad un mutamento tecnico e organizzativo della produzione di manufatti, viene utilizzata per riassumere una molteplicità di trasformazioni tecnologiche ed economiche che non riguardano solo la produzione industriale, ma investono tutti gli aspetti della vita economica e della società nel suo complesso.
